one of the things that bothered me about my KJ is that the headlights were weak. so i recently upgraded to the Sylvania 9007 SilverStar Ultras.... better, but not earth shattering.... they still don't throw enough light in my opinion. i guess that i am spoiled by the XENONs in my other car.is there any other solution? are the after market XENONs for our KJs?

From what I have heard, running an upgraded harness can help. It'd utilize a relay and be wired right off the battery.

I am actually pretty happy with the KJ lighting, coming from my Grand Prix. That thing was horrible in the lighting department.

I'd like to get some whiter bulbs, and I'd like to add on some BRIGHT aux lights to the front, but for normal driving in the city I think they are decent.

Ditto. Prior to Libby, we had been driving Intrepids, and the KJ's lighting is so much better.

I switched to PIAA replacement bulbs ... they were not cheap but well worth the expense.

Cheers,

Luke, what is the improvement? Is it whiter/brighter/longer distance/wider?
I have seen so many different KJs on the road with many different lights, some where incredibly white and bright, but they lacked the distance, they were like spot lights, very bright that you can see them from distance but they somehow did not illuminate distance objects well, i don't know how to describe.

AtoB, check your headlight lenses, they may have been fogged/dulled. There are somethings you can buy that is sold on ebay, i don't know if it works, but lenses make a huge difference as they are plastic and tend to wear easily.

Headlight Bulbs and Fog Replacements !

When I first bought my 04 KJ the bulbs were so weak, yellow and dim. They do loose intensity over time.
Like Luke, I also went to the PIAA Extreme White 9007 Bulbs. Quite the difference, much brighter/nice and white and the distance/side good as well, once they were adjusted properly. My adjustment was out, (front end sag) and once corrected perfect..almost.
Then onto the stock fog bulbs. Yanked one of those out and found that they were only 43 watts and also yellowish, and not adjusted properly. SO I found this mod, going up to a Silvania Silver Star 9005 ST, high beam fog at around 65 Watts. Once adjusted properly, now there is more white light than I have ever had, in any previous vehicle I have ever owned.

They're not WEAK, the housings/lens haev a limited line-of-sight. I upgraded my bulbs, and the distance the light shines is the same, just brighter beforehand. You can see a LINE where the light beams END on the road, and is way shorter than what my Avenger had. I NEVER used the high-beams on the Avenger, they shined far enough ahead as it was. With the Jeep, I have to use high-beams a lot, and still only get a few more feet farther than the low beams.

What lens housings did people change to to get better distance, WITHOUT adding larger fogs to the bumper...

ATOB: They do make Bi-Xenon lights for our KJ.. uh link..is here:

I know it's like $299.00 but you can get them probably cheaper else where if you want them bright though you want around 4300K to 4500K that's OEM White and very bright.. Bright enough on low to cause someone so swerve due to glare because of the scatter pattern from our headlights.. But to each his own :D:rolleyes:

I have been using them for about a year. They produce much whiter light (6500K If I remember) and extended the light about another 3rd of the stock distance. I didn't notice any difference in the width of the beam. I use them a lot in conjunction with the renegade fogs/driving lights and the coverage is nearly perfect.

Cheers,

P.S. my distance was definitely increased ... however the 5 year old bulbs that were in there when I bought her were very dim. (dunno)

No complaints about my headlights not throwing enough light, well oncoming traffic has problems with my headlights but I don't then again with 10" of lift(13" with tires) my headlights throw light a little farther.Guess I better aim them correctly(highly doubt it though).

That's actually from the improper housing for HID lights. Our headlights are not designed for HID bulbs and do not throw out the HID light properly which is why HID retro fit kits are illegal in the USA.

Just because they don't care does not make it legal. They just choose not to enforce the law,but get that one cop on a power trip or having a bad day they will get everyone for any tiny infraction.
