Hey, haven't read this forum lately, but just saw your post. My wife and I moved to the Winston-Salem area a couple years ago. We live in Kernersville, which is halfway between WS and Greensboro. We like it. I'd recommend living here, relatively quiet, with easy access to all the stuff in the bigger cities to either side. Highway Bus-40 would give your wife a quick drive to WSSU. There are good places to eat. Most of the basic chain restaurants, as well as lots of little family restaurants if you take time to explore a bit. The bbq is definitely different than I was used to, originally being from Michigan. Most places do a thin vinegar-based sauce. Still not my favorite, but it grows on you. There are lots of mountain bike trails in the area, rock climbing and hiking, skiing up near Boone. Fishing is ok, hunting is kind of a bust unless you have your own land or know someone who will give you private access. I hope your move goes well, how soon does your wife need to be down here?
