Got a water pump on the downward spiral. Any recommendations on brands? I see there are the basic OEM replacements, and then I see a few 'premium' brands (for more greenbacks, natch). Just curious what everyone thinks... should I stick with OEM or get a premium?

OEM should be made by Kager(33-0892) or Airtex(1725). maybe you can find them cheaper outside the dealer.

The innernets sells the OEM replacements in the range of $75-$85 or so. I recall seeing a premium brand (I could find it if I weren't so lazy today) at over $100.

Thank you, Ridenby. I've been checking a lot of the other websites, including NAPA Online, most started around $70(+) for new-- $45 or so for remanufactured, but I ain't goin rmfd for a water pump. It's not like it's a transmission where I might save $1500 bucks. I might go for that Bosch for $57.

I picked up a new one from O'reilly's for $55~ with a limited lifetime warranty, whatever that means exactly. So far so good, not that a water pump is really rocket science.

Whichever one you get, make sure it's the right one, the 3.7's used to share water pump with the 4.7's, then Chrysler came out with a TSB specifying a different water pump.

Hmm, ok, my normal process would be to go to website, and during vehicle selection process put in '04 Liberty Sport, 3.7 and then choose from the options that come up for Water Pump. Am I not guaranteed to get the right one going that route?

My understanding is that if you retain all the coolant and it looks good, no flush is necessary. I'll probably do it just to do it, though. The dealer did all my service through 70k miles (5 years) and honestly, I'm not sure what they did beyond the oil changes regardless of what the book was calling for. I do know they rotated my tires because I had the air-wrench overtightened lug nuts with lost covers to prove it. But on the little stuff? Not sure. I pulled out my spark plugs at 73k and they looked very, very original with gaps that would make a bad mechanic blush...
