Hi all, new to the forum. Just bought a 2004 Liberty 3.7 L RWD - 163k miles about 2 months ago. I will be doing a "full" tune up on it but there are various suggestions on what I should be getting as far as parts go.
I will be changing the oil/filter, gas filter, air filter, plugs, coil packs, PCV valve and cleaning the fuel injectors, throttle body and EGR valve.

I've gotten the Mobil 1 Extended Performance (Synthetic) 5 Quart motor oil so far but I would like suggestions on the best parts for the rest of the stuff I'll be doing (oil, gas & air filters, spark plugs/coils and PCV) and would also like to confirm if this would complete what I call a "full" tune up.

Thanks!

Might want to mention what engine you have people here are funny if you don't give all the info. I would add cleaning the IAC and the throttle body. They get gummy and it's bad. I have Bosch plugs in the one that's running and they seem to be good. If the O2 sensors have not been replaced, might want to do those. They are only good for 150k or so.

First I would familiarize yourself with the engine . Read through some how tos on here and also where parts are located, like the gas filter for instance

Spark plugs ONLY USE NGK or Champion coppers, it will tell you on core support
Air filter NAPA get there best , its as good as you can get
Also front and rear diffs/ transfer case etc need changing as well

And we're not " funny ( as someone mentioned ) on here " BUT if you don't give all of the info we're only guessing what you have
just like I am guessing you have the 3.7

No EGR on these things thankfully! Gas filter is kind of a "lifetime" thing. Not really serviceable. Get a Mopar PCV, aftermarket ones don't work right.

Thank you both for your replies, I'll add IAC valve cleaning and check prices for O2 sensors. Any recommendations for the rest for the coils, gas filter, O2 sensors and/or PCV?

NTK for o2 sensors.

You might want to do some PM on parts if they haven't been change. auto belt tensioner, WP, t-stat.

Fluid exchange your PS fluid. should be the red atf+4. bleed brake fluid too if no record.

oh is your coolant currently the right coolant?

Not the mountains.
For the spark plugs use NGK. The coils, just stick with MOPAR. Most parts of the KJ are better with MOPAR as far as the preventative maintenance goes.

Like mentioned above , gas filter is lifetime pretty much, in tank so most people do not change it , unless your name is Troy !:Bye:

To give you more to think of when I picked up the 05 and 03 both received
oil change
new plugs, coil packs, air filter, PCV, cleaned TB
front and rear diff fluids,
transmission pan dropped, cleaned, new filter(s) refilled
transfer case
replaced all cracked hoses
new upper control arms ( stock on 05, JBA on 03 )
05 got new stock suspension I had here, since my parents were going to be driving it for a short time
03 complete JBA adjustable coilovers
( measure from middle of the wheel in front to bottom of the flare to see how much sag you have when you have time )
drain and fill PS fluid
flush brake fluid
drain , flush and fill cooling system ( with HOAT ) of course
That got me going on them, then the improvements started :happy175:
of course the 04 always got got full treatment every so many thousand miles

03 also got idler , thermostat, water pump and radiator, 05 is getting all of that Thursday

Thanks for all your replies guys, really appreciated! Leaving work now but I'll reply with a summary of what I have, with part numbers and everything once I'm home.

Unless it's misfiring, I'd opt NOT to replace perfectly fine ignition coils in place of replacing critical fluids like coolant, power steering, brake and differentials. Same with cleaning fuel injectors, short of tossing in a bottle of B12.

I'd be inclined to change the engine drivebelt as well.

I agree with Jason that I made bold. No codes, no problem, then leave them alone and just change the plugs with NGK copper ones as previously noted.

I agree with changing all the fluids, air filter with a paper filter, copper plugs, gates brand drive belt, mopar pcv valve. The stuff i wouldnt touch until theres a problem is o2 sensors, coils, thermostat. For parts like that you're better keeping your functional oem that could last another 200k than aftermarket junk that can fail quickly.

Stuff for inspection is brakes, hoses, springs, shocks, suspension, tires including spare, u joints, ball joints, definately cv joint out of the front of the transfer case.

And see if you can find the age of its battery, or else load test it before winter.

Or an especially hot winter. It's the high heat that damages a battery.... you just don't notice until winter.

Unless you don't use aftermarket junk parts ................:icon_razz:
coils, thermostat, O2 sensors , idler, etc I only use Mopar

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I'm way too cheap and lazy to buy oem parts to replace parts that already work. :happy175:

You would be surprised at how many OEM parts are cheaper then the aftermarket versions(top tier).

Anything for the engine or trans always use OEM parts(sensors and such) for Chrysler vehicles.O2 sensors only use NTK O2 sensors, bosch O2's are complete junk and will cause issues in Chrysler vehicles.

Heck I buy my spark plugs from the dealership and cost's me less then $10 including tax,go to advance or autozone for the same plugs and they want almost $20 after yelling at them those $20 each iridium plugs don't belong in my engine.

So very true, people think going to these " cheap " places they are saving money . Local dealership even gives me a discount anymore and knows my name, what all I own etc. Better than any Auto*one etc
