Hi, all. I'm new to the forum and just bought a used Liberty - 2007.

I'm wondering if I need to add an aftermarket transmission cooler to haul a 6 X 8 open utility trailer - wood sides, if you need to know. The trailer weighs about 900 lbs and I can't imagine with cargo I'm every hauling much more than 2,000 lbs combined.

Any help/advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks, Sota.

If you don't mind, are you satisfied with your Lib? About the two worst things I've read about them are poor gas mileage (which I can live with) and crappy window controllers.

I think you'd be ok...how often and for how long will you be towing?

Where in WI are you? I'm over by MN in the Coulee region as they call it.

I love my Jeep...reliable, fun to drive, safe...gas mileage is ok considering what it is. I get about 14 in town and 20 highway.

Thanks Hoosier. I live south of Madison and have 40 acres in Langlade county. I'd probably trailer toward the heavier side about a dozen times each year - for camping and deer season - up to the property. Otherwise, light trailer about another dozen or so times. Nothing constant.

Welcome!

Double check that there isn't a ****** cooler already installed behind the grill. On the driver's side is the power steering cooler - runs vertically on the far side of the rad. The ****** cooler will be on the bottom of the rad in front of the AC condenser. You can see the lines coming from the trans inside the engine compartment below the air box along the frame rail.

Most Libby's (at least the early ones) had the trans cooler from the factory.

Let us know what you find.

I have used our 07 (without the towing package) to pull a 10 x 5 trailer, with a 700 pound motorcycle on it, round trip from Indiana to New Hampshire and Indiana to Fla.
And two more round trips from In. to Fla. pulling a 12 x 6.5 trailer with our bike.
We have not had any problems yet. The KJ seems to be a good pulling vehicle.
Going through the mountains I turned off the overdrive. On flat roads I use the OD and cruise.
We also use our 02 KJ to pull a 12 x 6.5 trailer and two ATV's several times a year.

You should be fine without adding anything.

So far so good.
it does what I ask of it without complaint (and when towing the car, it's asking alot! :smokin:)
the gas mileage is less than stellar but I'm getting better at eeking 20mpg out of it with mixed driving and not feel like i'm granny driving all the time.

the only major complaint I have is the drive by wire system in it (only 07's had it for the gassers.) IT ***** HORRIFICALLY WITH A STICK SHIFT.
