Recently purchased a 2007 Liberty Sport and have already posted one question about towing - got several very helpful comments. Made me feel welcome.

This past weekend, I installed a Curtis hitch and wiring kit, which was easy except for cleaning out the weld nuts - lots of buildup.

I have a 6X8 utility trailer which empty weighs about 900 lbs. I noticed when I hooked it up to the Lib, the back end dropped a couple inches. With little tongue weight, I didn't find this a particularly good sign.

In talking to a couple mechanics where I work, they suggested the Timberen Suspension Enhancement System. It's not a lift kit, which is why I posted it here. But it is supposed to assist with managing tongue weight and stability.

Wondering if any of you have installed these and what your experience has been?

Love the Jeep so far! Can't wait to trailer in my ATV and trailer out my monster buck!

A 6x8 900lb empty utility trailer maybe has a tongue wt of 150lbs max. The back shouldn't sag at all. Now if you had it loaded it might be different. Maybe your springs/shocks have lost some stiffness? Maybe the prior owner did a lot of towing heavy loads?

I have a 6x10 trailer and even with almost a cord of wood on it I don't notice any sag and the tongue weight with the load on it would be greater loaded.

Thanks, Dave.

Previous two owners didn't do any towing, as was evidenced by the hitch weld nuts requiring the massive cleaning.

The Lib has only 57K on the odometer. Is it possible the springs/shocks are already tired? I suppose anything's possible.

Thanks.

I ordered my hitch and wiring harness from eTrailer and saw the air bags. I guess the "beauty" part of the Timberen SES is they don't require air.

Maybe too good to be true?

Same here - have had a ton+ on mine, tires rubbed the trailer fenders, tounge weight was at least 200+ and very little sag.

I'd do the air bags if you need it, more work, but they are great - did it to a Ram PU and loved it.

Yup!
Springs and shocks are bagged and sagged!

X2

Heres the test to prove it: find a set of railroad tracks that are above the level of the road and drive over them at a good pace. When you get some negative G's on the far side of them and then come back to earth feel for the rear to bottom out. You'll know it if it happens. If it does your springs are sagged and the reason your trailer is causing butt droop.

Have a buddy who weighs 200lbs or so stand on the hitch. If the rear moves more than 3/4" then somethin' ain't right...

Monroe Sensa Trac ,
hate Monroes but these have lasted for almost 50,000 miles so far and are doing great , ride is good , can pile weight inside, plus towing a trailer and never sags like before. Plus lifetime warranty so WTH
Work on a KK as well when lifted
( installed during the winter so underside is real crappy LOL)

Thanks, all. I'll try check the springs and shocks first.

No one answered my "real" question, though. So I'll assume no one has experience with the Timberen SES.

:)

Sorry we couldn't answer your real question but with weak suspension anything you add is just an band aid approach to the real problem
