What does everyone think about the possibility of taking the seats from, say, a kj limited with heated seats, and installing them in an 02? Is that something that's even possible? What kind of wiring would be involved? If not, I'm also considering getting something like:

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/product-information.asp?number=65401

Anyone ever purchased seats like that? I know I'd need mounting brackets and stuff for it. What about how to make sure the seat belts worked properly? I know nothing about all of this, and I'm mostly just curious (as there's no way I have $700 to spare on the entire seat set right at the moment), but it's a possibility in the future.

It would be the wiring them up to power... If the heat controls are on the seat, then you can wire it pretty easily. There is a How To here on power seats, adding those. There is a site called "the12volt.com" that has a lot of wiring information, using relays and so on.

You will need to use a RELAY if you wire it yourself. Main Power can come from directly the battery, in-line fused, and that would be switched on by the Relay; say, when the key is in RUN position.

Relays are your friend...

I would get one from a Pre-04. In 04 they added some sensors in the passenger seat for the air bags. This is the reason they added the light on the dash to indicate if the air bag is on or off.

The switch that comes on the heated seats isnt just a regular old switch. It just sends out a signal to the BCM to turn the seats on then it returns to its position. Push it again to turn them off or press the HI to put them on HI. Not sure if the wiring is already there for the heated seats.

Do you have power locks or an EVIC?

I have power locks, and I'm assuming I have an EVIC, but I'm not positive. I know I can tweak the settings on the locks themselves, which I thought was associated with the EVIC...

Check on http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/phpBB2/ for an instructional how-to on adding the power seats with heat to your KJ. There was a member over there that did add heated seats to their KJ.

The heat switch is on the seat. The controller is underneath the seat. So if you find a nice pair of front buckets with the heated switch, you should get everything you need. (Just make sure you get a section of the wireharness just in case)

Other option is to buy the elements aftermarket for about $160 a seat and install them yourself. Did this in my wife's G6 as we both hate leather and you could only get heated seats with leather since the element is stitched to the seat cover from the factory.

Hers works really well. I got some nice dual temp (forget the exact wattages, but it's warm!) carbon fiber units.

Oh, I didn't know you could do them aftermarket--that would actually be preferred here, as I like my leather lined seats. I may have to look into that =]

I'll try to look around later and see where I got mine. It may have even been heatedseat.com or something obvious like that. I did a lot of searching and it was the best price/quality balance I could find.
