So if I'm understanding correctly....
Any 3.7L from 2002-2004 will interchange "without" having to replace the cam sprockets, reluctor ring,etc....as long as it's basically from the same vehicle?

Folks this is my first post on this site and my first kj. Need a little help. When I bought the jeep the engine was dead so I ordered a used low mile engine from eBay. It was supposedly a 47k engine and the pictures were exactly matching. The engine that arrived was not the one in the picture but it appears to be a 2002 Dodge Ram 3.7l. The differences that I have found is that it has a different intake and an egr. My existing liberty has no egr. I am wondering can I block the egr and use this engine in my liberty.
What's up brother , Im having the same issue right now, I have a 2002 jeep liberty 3.7 with a bad motor, I bought another engine thinking they where selling me the same one , and they sold me a 2002 dodge ram 1500 3.7 engine , I had someone install it , but all it does is just cranks but does not start, can you please tell me what you did to get yours running?

Post #2 has a link with a lot of info on the engine differences. I would remove the RH valve cover and look at the cam gear to determine which engine you have. If it is a NGC you have to change a few things that are not easy to change in the vehicle. If it is a JTEC ECM motor it should run. Go back and check everything
