Stripped belt tensioner bolt ?

Replacing water pump and was trying to remove belt tensioner but the bolt was already stripped. Tried using socket extractor with no luck and heat & wd40. I watched some videos and to loosen is counter clockwise is this correct? Any ideas on how to remove bolt ? Thanks

CRD? The pulleys are left hand thread so rotate in the opposite direction to undo them.

What size head was that before you started working at it?

I am thinking

A - use a 6 point socket instead of a 12 point
B - next nearest size down in metric or SAE
C - impact socket, if it will fit in there is a heavier, sturdier choice.

I am guessing that it is 15mm head.

Also try tapping the socket deeper. That can do wonders. 12 point sockets are evil. Use them only when you have to. They will round bolt more often than you'd think. 6 point give the best fit. You can also try an imperial 1/2 6 point socket. Its slightly smaller than a 13mm. I hate all imperial sizes, but I keep them around because they often allow for in between sizes when dealing with rounded bolts.

No. That is pulley bolt on the diesel jeep. Your is a gas engine. And you are doing a tensioner bolt, not pulley bolt.

That's why I asked what you were working on, the CRD's get snapped bolts because people swing on them trying to undo them and finish up tightening them and snapping them off or ripping the threads out.

I had the same issue when removing my tensioner. The bolt immediately rounded out. I tried everything to get it off. I ended up drilling the head of the bolt. Once the head of the bolt fell off, the tensioner fell off the motor and I was able to unscrew the bolt by hand. Hope the works for you.
