My daughter has a 2004 Liberty. Recently, she let me know that her steering was becoming more difficult and the vehicle was making a sound when she turned the wheel. I checked her steering fluid and noticed it was down, so picked up the recommended transmission fluid and topped the resevoir off. That was 6 months ago and she just let me know that the same thing is happening, which obviously shouldn't.

I asked her to check underneath the car where she parks, to see if there was a pool of liquid or stain, where the fluid may be leaking to, but she indicated she couldn't see anything.

I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. Is this a common issue with the Liberty, or even Jeeps in general? Also, if there's no evidence of a leak underneath the vehicle, does anyone have any idea where the fluid is disappearing to?

I'm certainly not familiar with car repairs and my daughter lives about 12 hours from us. I've suggested she refill the resevoir, which fixed the issue the last time, and to bring the vehicle into a repair shop to get checked out. So she doesn't get ripped off, I'm hoping to at least gain some insight into what the problem may be from the forum.

Any feedback is much appreciated. Happy holidays to all.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Well it's not a bad leak since that pump only holds about 1/2qt.I'd be poking the bellows boots on the rack and pinion and see if ATF runs out.If it does a new rack and pinion is required.

I had the same thing happen with mine and it was the steering rack.

During the warmer months here I noticed my power steering fluid would slowly go down (slow as in only needing to top it up every few months). Once winter hit and we had a very cold day (-38'C) I noticed that I lost all of my power steering. Looked under the jeep and there was a puddle behind the driver's side tire. I saw fluid around the boot on the rack and pinion. I had warranty at the time so I got it fixed for free.

If you are looking for a specific car, then the search tools on a website I came across can assist you in finding the perfect vehicle. I was able to specifically watch for manual transmissions, and it pointed me towards a dealership in Springfield that had really good prices. With Miller Dodge Chrysler Jeep you will definitely get one of the best car buying experience possible. You should try visiting a car dealership if you want to buy a brand new car. There are a lot of cars that you can choose from in a dealership that you will surely like to buy.
