42RLE: 2.840, 1.570, 1.000, 0.690

45RFE: 3.000, 1.67/1.50, 1.000, 0.750
Two second gear ratios, second (up-shift) and second prime (kick-down).

The specs say Rear Wheel Drive Xmissions, but they should be the same. If not, still, you can see the different gear ratios.

Yeah, there's the difference right there. The different ****** gearing accounts for 200 rpm difference at 65mph.......all elce being equal.

Not like anyone cares, but I feel compelled to correct myself after looking at my mileage log this morning. I don't get 240 for a half a tank....it's 170 per half tank. Just wanted to correct myself before someone called me out on it. My mistake.

It puzzles me why one 3.7L engine will get 16 and another 22 MPG.
Is there that big of a difference on the gearing you can order on
a Liberty?

My 04 is a manual ****** and no factory tow package. I got a combo
of 15 MPG pulling a heavy pop-up camper to the U.P. of MI, staying a
week and then pulling the camper back home.. Guess that's not bad
after reading some of the other posts.

It makes a HUGE difference in how you throttle also. The place it bites you is if you need to change speed or spike it past 2000 rpm. Keep it nice and throttle slowly and you will see a significant improvement in mileage. I also had an improvement when I went to Mobil 1 Syn oil which was only 22 bucks.
