The black plastic thing.

I can't remember, but is it possible to remove it? I know I'll have to remove the bumper, but I want to know for sure before I do so. Too hot out for that.

Thanks!

I forgot to check to see if the screws were on the top end of it when I had the bumper off. D'oh.

Really hurts my arm for oil changes.

Tow package.

I'd rather not cut it. Only removing it because of the oil change aspect, really doesn't affect clearance.

This is the only thing that makes it hard for an oil change. Filter is fine.

I guess the cheapy way to take it off is go run over something tall... ;)

You can change your approch to the filter. I hit up the drain from behind the front tires, if I had to I could scoot up and pull the filter from that angle and the air dam wouldn't be in the way. I've got hella long arms so it makes sense for me to hit it like that.

With 4 inch lift/32's and I can roll around anyplace under mine and reach everything without jacking or doing anything else

So the solution is "LIFT IT"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, will try that. Last time I parked against the garage wall on the driver's side, so that wasn't an option.

Or SFA it, where I need to stand on a stool to work on it?

:DNow you're getting the idea.
Maybe even get a Lazyboy for the garage with wheels lay back roll under and do anything to it, even detail the undercarriage

But its easy to remove and you could make it removable as well

For me, and I have pretty much the same vehicle as Hoosier, the skid plate is in my way for that method. I can't reach it from the top and I can't reach it from behind the wheels. I have to position myself perpendicular to the front of my Jeep and reach up between the bumer and the front of the skid plate.

The air dam on the bumper also "cuts" into my arm when changing the filter.

I've gotten it down pretty good though. It isn't much of a problem any more.

HJ I think the bumper arrangement was different on my Renny, but after trimming the bumper which got rid of that air dam and a lot of other useless plastic, I can now reach my oil filter with ease from under the front. Prior to that I had to reach it from the top, and I usually dropped the damn thing and spilled oil all over the driveway, grabbing it from under I have much better grip and control, didn't spill a drop.....

I'd have to look at an 04, but Tony removed his on his KJ, maybe he'd know a bit more.
