I was just creepin' the Canada section of the site here and found a guy talking about a mod where you relocate the rear lower shock absorber mounts to allow for more suspension movement. However the post didn't specify what to do. So I'm curious if anyone around here knows what this mod is about.

Also I plan on doing some welding/frame strengthening and was wondering if anyone had any experience doing anything like that. I would rather use stock steel such as 2"square or plate rather then buy a kit.

just south of doucheville
that not a bad idea. could you not cut off the old mounts and re-weld them back on?

you can do any thing you want
just remember that you do not want to over compress the shock
so you need to adjust your bump stop

I did such a mod on my TJ ,moved the upper and lower mounts
welding and cutting was involved
also add some strength to the LCA and UCA's while we were there
in the end I have about 3" between the axle and the bump stop
but I have a buttload of drop and by moving them WAY out on the axle
I gained more stability and lots of axle clearance
