Random Blinker light question.

So I looked around the forum to see if I could find an answer but can not. My question is, What is the small light that goes in the orange blinker housing in the front of the kj? I put new housings in today and wired in a new socket for that light. but neither of them ever come on. I have tested them and they are getting power. But what are they for? Everything works fine on the Jeep, I'm just curious.

marker / running lights. Should come on with headlights. Will also alternate with the blinker when running headlights and using turn signal
