In the end, whatever storage you choose, I believe that by principle, the storage itself should never be visible from outside the car, which pretty much leaves the undersides of the seats. As a rule, if the burglar sees a box, and the box is locked, he immediately knows that something valuable must be inside, thus creating an incentive for a break-in.

There is in fact some value in security through obscurity. There are very few boxes that you're going to be able to build-- or are even willing to build that won't stop a determined thief with enough time on his hands. So first, hide the box, then make it as hard as possible to get into without making noise.

I will add to this a no brainer. Park your Jeep only in places where the crim won't have plenty of time. i.e. Well illuminated, many passing by, public. Crims don't want to be caught, it takes away the incentive for them. So they move fast to avoid witnesses calling the Po. If he only has <30 seconds to break the window and grab whatever's available, he likely won't bother with your lock box (unless he can take the whole thing and worry about opening it later.)

On the other hand, if you park in such a way that nobody sees your vehicle but once ever few hours, crim now has all the time in the world to work on the locked goodie box.

Nothing is 100% secure. You can only make it so much of a pain in the ass to steal that the crims don't bother and move on to easier fish.

Remove the drivers seat, and mount a lock box inside the seat frame, that's only removable bye removing the seat. One that opens on the side instead of the top.

Passenger seat has more room, but drivers would be more convenient.

I know people that have used this device http://consolevault.com/indexInner.html?p=53

Its a "Console Vault" but not sure where you could place this in your KJ. I'll do some looking and as around at the sheriff's office where I work and see if the guys there recommend anything.

Here is one that would possibly work under your drivers seat: http://www.tufloc.com/tufloc-tufbox-weapon-storage.html

Look at the smaller lock box. Im not sure on the size, but looks like it might work for you.

Found another http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?groupID=740 - looks promising.

Zachs that's some good info. I really like the security console insert, not sure if it'll fit the liberty though. Maybe with a little fabwork... I have just been clipping my holster to the metal bar under the driver seat, this works great for being able to get to it quickly. If I have to leave it in the car I've been locking it up in a handgun case which is pad locked to the seat, it's a bit of a pain, but will have to do until I can find a product or build a custom lockbox design.
