If I drive the Jeep different than the previous owner could I be causing the P0123 code? For instance I noticed the code came up when I gunned it down the on ramp to beat a semi, so I was thinking maybe the TPS angle was too high for the PCM's "user memory"... is that possible? If so then I'd just have to reteach the PCM this TPS right? Disconnect the battery for a long time then drive it like a granny then like a maniac back and forth for a little while???

I ask because I replace the TPS and the code went out... for a day, but now it's back after doing the hard driving.

I don't see that happening...even if it was grannied before, the TPS should still be in acceptable range at WOT no matter what. I could be wrong, but I am voting no - something else is wrong.

P0123

Set Condition:
This DTC will set if the monitored TPS voltage rises above 4.94 volts for the period of 0.48 seconds.

As the TPS is in reality a simple potentiometer, yeah, same as a portable radio ( does anyone still remember...? ), such condition
might mean that there's a short ( or bad connector ) between 5V positive supply and central pin, which carries the variable
tension.

Hope this helps... :)
