I sold my liberty awhile ago but i'm looking to buy another one. I'm currently looking at 2. One's an 03 with 105,000 miles and ones an 05 with 140,00 with a freshly rebuild ******. I'm wondering if the 05 motor would be more reliable then the other even though it had more miles. Seems like i see alot of 02 or 03 libertys with bad motors with only around 100,000 miles on them.

I've got 120k on my 03 and no probs at all. I even got lucky enough to have one with the 45RFE ******

i had 150,000 on my 03 when i sold it. But then i look on craigslist and see ones with less then 120,000 with blown motors. Was just wondering if there was any difference in the 03 and the 05

My buddys 03 is over 214,000 now
no problems with it
It all depends on how it was taken care of
Myself I'd go for an 02-03-04 ,

130K on my 2006 no problem so far, it's running like a charm and as far as I know 05 and 06 are most likely identical.

Getting a bit away from anecdotes and more towards evidence, go check out truedelta.com for comparison of problems per model year.

I got 111k on my 05...knock on wood, no window regulators, just routine maintenance, literally. Plus 05+ had the 20.5 gal gas tanks.

I think any year is fine, just avoid one with ABS/TC/ESP.

As for ABS, some study show that it will increase breaking distance, but I think that if your ABS kick in it's because you suck at driving properly.

Do a search of the vin thats what I did. The 45RFE is a sturdier and more rugged ****** than the 42RLE. I'm sure someone else can add more onto this though.

The crossmember (the one by transfercase) on a 42RLE will be straight, 45RFE isn't.
