Some really great guy decided to run a red light today. I was going through an intersection, he was turning right onto the road of which I was going through. Said he had the green light of course. Cop comes, he doesnt have insurance, got tickets, $500 fine, going to court, and its ruled his fault. The cop was really cool about it. She said when two people say that they both had the green light with no witnesses she just takes the lights out of the equation and looks at who had the right of way. So that worked out pretty good in this case but I can see where that wouldnt work out in every situation. Either way, damage isnt all that bad. Door will probably need to be replaced though.

It's when things like this happen that ThunderbirdJunkie is glad he doesn't spend 12+ hours a week detailing his junk :D

In all seriousness, Blake, that ***** man :(

Pretty sure that's totaled!

Sorry about that Blake. Looks like you'll need to get a new KK and this time I will be ahead in the mileage race!!!

In all seriousness, I'd have wanted to slap him upside the head! Is there a law against abusing people after accidents??! Who runs a red light!? Glad you're OK though definitely!

And oh yeah, MAKE SURE YOUR INSURANCE doesn't use Aftermarket parts!!!! Those things rust QUICK!

That ***** big time pal, glad to hear nobody was seriously hurt.

What was that other guy thinking? driving without insurance coverage? He's so lucky he didn't cripple anybody or hit a lawyer. Just imagine the lawsuit

So I suppose this means your insurance has to foot the entire bill and your rates go up? Again, that ***** big time.

LibertyFever, here in the US, if you have uninsured motorist coverage and something like this happens, your rates don't go up. At least that's how it is with ThunderbirdJunkie's insurance.

Damage to the inner door sill is a ****** though...hope they can fix it for you...

Yeah I was wondering about that too. I didnt notice it right away, I was in a rush to get to class. Was thinking about it and wondered if the door was warped or would open so when I got out I tried to open it. The top part of the door sticks out slightly so I guess it pushed it in in the middle causing the top to come out a little. All the gaps are still in good shape so Im assuming the hinges are ok. Gotta yank it open pretty hard though since that jamb is pushed up

I did pretty good and kept my cool. First thing I said was wth were you doing, along with a few other things. All he said was, 'uhhhhhhhh, I was turning right.' Soon as I heard the ignorance in his voice I knew he was gonna lie but it turned out good.

Our insurance foots the bill but weve gotta pay the deductible. Just talked to our insurance, they are coming to look at it then write me a check on spot, pretty happy with them for handling it that quick and in a good manner. They dont even have the police report yet.

And Im almost 100% sure it wont be totaled. It would need to be well over 6k before it was totaled, the jeep is still worth over 10k according to the taxes. I wouldnt be surprised if it was close to 4-5k since the door may need to be replaced though.

I'd Be tempted to wait until this inconsiderate, rush in, +&** get's his car back.
Then pay him a visit with a crowbar to his rear door.
I guess he wont be getting his car back or fixed with no insurance. %&^*er
Maybe his lawn needs remodeling.

They won't total it for that, its piddly.... I have seen way worst than that on some vehicles. I would have to show the pics to the shop here but im guessing 3-4k for that, all depends on how the shop handles it. Here they would pull the door jamb back out on their hydraulic table, hammer and dolly it to get it close and then filler to just smooth the marks and then prime and paint... Before anyone bad mouths the filler even if a shop cut out that bad area and welded a new one in they are still going to use filler to finish the joints up. I have watched them pull out beat up rockers on pickups that look a lot worst then that, after a few hours he has it pretty close, then a little heating with the torch and hammering and its done.

Then slap on a new door after painting it and transfering the trim and guts from your old door, a new flare for the door, and thats about it.

I bet the guys i always go to could literally hammer that out in like two days depending on how long it took to get the parts. When i hit the deer it took a few days to get parts from the Jeep dealership, then it took them less than a day to do the actual work. They had to pull out the metal behind the turn signal and do a little hammering to get it all where it should be, can't even tell after it was done.

That doesn't look so bad.... but then I don't know about fixing the inside door area that may be tough..... If you like it and didn't want to part with it I hope they can repair it correctly for you.

since you have to pay your deductable to get it repaired I would look in to taking the bastard to small claims court for the money you are out.

The insurance company will take into consideration the wholesale value of the car, then if the repair is more than a certain percentage of that wholesale value, then they total it. So a 2004 KJ with $3000 worth of damage could be getting close to being totaled.
