Gotta get permission from your insurance company 1st for that since after the repair they own all the bad parts.

Yeah, just tell them you want to hang it in the garage. They will let you have it I am sure. It's just a door. If it was a whole wrecked vehicle they would salvage it. They will just tell the body shop to trash it anyway. Then you will have the extra glass/regulator/door panel/speaker, etc. I would. I have a GMC grill hanging in the garage......guess how I got it..........haha

I bet they strip the old door and re-use all those parts into a new door shell, thats what they do in almost every shop i have been in. Its not to be cheap, its because the insurance companies were threatening them for replacing parts that don't need to be.

Ohh Ill be taking my speaker and wiring out of the door before they touch it. And I would say they will move everything over from the door. Im pretty sure they just buy a shell.

Insurance came and checked it out.. $2200.. Thats with a used door which Im ok with. Thats exactly the same quote the Jeep Dealer gave me but they had figured the quote with a new door so we'll see. Probably wont take it in for another month so Ill be on spring break and wont need to get a rental.

When my wife blew in the passenger door on her G6 they replaced with a used door. The panel was screwed up, so they needed the panel off the used vehicle (which looked brand new). The shop asked me if I wanted the trashed interior panel. I told them HELL YES since it has all of the switches and buttons and whatnot. I have it in the rafters in the garage. The door panel is kinda messed up, but it's worth it to have the extra switches and whatnot in case hers crap out down the road :D

Oh wait I just read this again and thought...

I'd most certainly have a very big issue with just any used door. That used door could quite possibly be an already replaced aftermarket panel. I wonder if there's a way to find out.... those aftermarket panels don't last very long before they start to rust to death. My mom's tailgate was replaced with an aftermarket part.

That was 2005. That is the ONLY rusty panel on the vehicle (It's 9 years old). It's gotten so bad recently that it's beginning to crumble.

You bought the Jeep with a new door on it, didn't you? Why would you want it replaced with a door that wasn't good enough for somebody else to keep?

You should all get your insurance contracts amended to state "new" OEM parts only, used OEM parts if new is not available.

There is nothing wrong with used body parts like a door as long as it is in good shape, there better then all the aftermarket crap that is made in china and rusts through in a week.

Both my insurance company and the body shop warranty everything for the life of the Jeep. If it rusts then it'll be right back in their shop.

If I had to guess Id say a used door didnt come from a Jeep b/c it wasnt good enough for the jeep. I would say its b/c the jeep was in a wreck and the door was too good for the Jeep.
