Cruise Control install.....not finished yet Cruise starts then stops

After a bit of a cold snap, I got to install the cruise control on my 02 sport.
The parts are a combination of salvage yard and ebay. All went as expected.

During the test drive it became evident that I've missed something or have a failed component.

After starting the jeep, and hitting the cruise "on button", the cruise indicator will light for about 10 seconds. After that it will not go on again.....unless I turn off the engine and restart it...then I get another 10 seconds. So my question is:

  • Might I need to "enable" cruise on the ecu?
  • Would a vacuum leak cause this?
  • How likely is it that the trouble is the 15
years of dust dirt and crap in the female wire connector?
