So lately I've noticed that there's been some vibrating when I press on the brakes, almost like the ABS, only I don't have ABS. It was suggested that the struts may need to be replaced by a friend of mine, so I wondered what everyone's opinions were. I noticed it more when it was raining out, which made me think the brake pads, but I don't notice it at any other point rather than when I was slowing down from like 50mph or higher. Any suggestions/thoughts?

it sounds like your brake rotors are warped! i have the same problem :( you can have a brake place machine them down some times but i will probable just come back over time. Im just going to wait tell i need new pads and just replace the hole set up.

No, I don't feel it at all in the steering column, I only feel it through the pedal. It feels like it's skipping. The only time I feel any vibration through the steering column is when I'm going about 65 mph because my tires need to be re-balanced--I didn't have them done the last time I had the oil changed.

If you know your tires are out of balance, then have that done and have them rotated first. (not expensive)

The pulsating brake pedal is a warped rotor/rotors as the previous poster said. Rotors can be turned one time usually, depending on how much material is removed before they are out of spec and need to be replaced. Find a local garage with a good mechanic and get prices. There must be several around where you are......But if they were really bad I would think they would pulsate every time you step on the brakes.

I had issues like that, and it can be one of a few things, including the rotors, which I would look there first.

Rotors - Always look there first.
Upper control arm bushings.
Tie Rod End (Bad ball joint)
Other Ball Joints
Struts, yeah, but Cap? Mount?...

Mine was always warped rotors on the dodge, but, they were too small for the car.

I'm taking it to my mechanic tonight, so we'll see what he says. The only reason I'm thinking that it isn't the warped rotors is because our Subaru had that problem and didn't feel quite the same as this does. Anyway, I'll update you guys on Thursday =]

Usually a bad coil over will not cause vibrations in the brake pedal. If the shocks were bad, the front end of the Jeep would continue to bounce after you went over a dip or bump in the road.

Warped front rotors will cause the steering wheel to shake when you brake so its possible it could be warped rear rotors. I dont think Ive ever heard of anyone warping rear rotors though.

I also need to get my tires balanced.. :(

He said there's nothing wrong with the brakepads, and the only thing he could think of was the rotors. He said he couldn't feel anything either of the times he took it out, but he also wasn't able to travel at any high speeds and slow down which is when I was feeling the pulsating. He also told me that the crash I'd been in the night I was supposed to take it in was only body damage (which was good news, even if it did turn out to be $3,300 in damages o_O). On the bright side, Jeep's going to be in surgery for the next few days--hope to have it back by Thursday good as new =D

Good to hear the Jeep is fine!!! It's most likely the rotors. On my Durango it has a horrible shimmy when braking from 50mph, but goes away at about 40mph...timed to have them turned again. Hopefully they can, already done once. The Libby is showing signs of needing a brake job......

Turning the rotors will only make them warp faster, they don't make them thick enough anymore to really cut them even if they say they can be

I doubt they can turn the Dango's anymore. The front is the issue. Last time they were turned, they were pushing it to the limit. Probably should had them replaced then, but was getting new meats, and was already at a grand or so. I have no clue about the KJ's because I bought mine used:confused:.

Ive had my front rotors turned but I told them to take off as little as they could. That was around 25k ago and so far so good. When I got the rotors back I could hardly tell they had taken anything off.

When I need front pads Ill be replacing the rotors anyway, wont try to machine them again.

These days new rotors aren't much more than the price of turning the old ones.

I was noticing that, because both of my vehicles may be in for new rotors. I think I saw Bremos on tirerack.com for around $100. Didn't they used to be like $300?
