Hello.

A few days ago the belt snapped and luckily I stopped my KJ so the only repairs were replacing the belt and the water pump.

It runs perfectly, does not overheat--except for the belt....gets stuck if I turn on the air conditioner at the highest setting or if I click the snowflake (ac) button on the dashboard that's by the radio. It makes a very loud annoying noise.

If I open the hood all the motor parts are running and turning correctly. The minute I turn on the air condititioner at the highest setting and specially if I also click the snowflake (AC) button on the dashboard it looks like the belt gets stuck and it doesn't make all the parts spin like when it's off. This also happens sometimes when I turn--although it's becoming less of a problem.

One more thing...I can turn the ac on at the highest setting if I'm cruising at a good speed but the loud irritating noise returns if I slow down and then accelerate again.

Any ideas?

THANKS

I'd say you need a new belt tensioner, this should be replaced whenever the belt is replaced.

If the AC clutch is the problem, be careful as another member on the forums just had a problem with their AC compressor going up in flames...

Make sure the tensioner was replaced first of all, from what i have read on here and other places it seems that it's a common failure and its commonly overlooked when the belt is replaced!
