Light trouble

Hey people. I got some trouble with my lights. When I have my headlight switch off and my daytime running lights are on I have a buzzing in my high beam relay in the cab. As soon as I turn on my lights though the buzzing goes away. Also if my handbrake is on with the lights off the buzzing goes away. Any idea on what’s the problem?

Doesn't the handbrake inactivate the DRLs? It does in my 01 Outback. If so, maybe the DRL relay is on it's way out.

Try swapping relays around on the Junction block which is basically the interior fuse panel.

Most of the relays are on the rear of this panel....the Wiring Diagrams for your year KJ...other than 2004...are available here....download the relevant year KJ Service Manual. I f yours is a 2004 then the 2003 KJ Service Manual is usually close enough. The wiring diagram gives you a picture of the Junction Block and shows which relay goes where.
The DLR relay is larger and more robust than the other fuses so you cannot swap it over.

The wiring diagram shows that the High beam relay and the DLR relay are interconnected....don't know where the handbrake light gets involved though!

You need to replace the DRL relay as it switches very fast to regulate the voltage going to the high beam filament. and all that switching wears on the relay over time. Make sure you get the DRL relay, not a normal high beam relay. The DRL relay is a solid state relay.
