lift help

I need help, i have a 2002 liberty and i recently got seriously stuck. granted i was in over a foot of mud and i lost momentum by being a **** and letting off the gas in 4Lo. Now i looked at the paper work that came with my libby when i bought it and its got the off road package which apparently comes with a 2 inch lift for a few extra bucks (which it has, the rear bumper sits 20 inches off the ground. the mud was up to the floor boards and a cherokee pulled me out no problem... (at least it was another jeep that bailed me out) How can i change this problem, more lift? and if so how can i do it on a budget but also keep it as road/highway worthy as possible

Read through the "Frequently asked lift questions" thread.
You will find all the answers to your questions as far as lifts are concerned.
Next time, don't be a "****" (your words!)
And don't let off the gas!
And if you are worried about breaking stuff... Don't go wheeling!

I wouldn't assume that your Libby is actually 'lifted' as your paperwork says. Measure the distance between the center cap of your wheels to the fender flare; if it's anywhere between 17.5 to 19 inches you're not really lifted. Either the original lift has sagged badly or it never was actually 'lifted' as we now know it.

As Ry said, go to the FAQ and How-To section. You'll find great info and the lift of choice is OME springs all around, either OME or Bilstein shocks and a couple tricks to lift it an additional inch or so...

Ry: when did I say I was afraid of breaking anything?? That's the risk we all take when you go off road and that's why warrentys are voided if mud is present. I've looked there but no one can give a clear cut answer if there's a lift present.
TwoBobs: my dad was part of the launch for the liberty and has stated that my jeep has the up country package (stock 2 inch lift) the measure from center cap to fender flare is 21 inches almost exactly, my main question was what is best on a budget and no one clearly stars what is cheapest AND best, they're answers are always what cheaper and I was hoping some one was in the spot as me at one point and had good luck with a cheap lift. Thanks guys for the reply

If your Lib has 40000 or more miles, your suspension is done!
If you want a great lift, go with OME coil springs al around and your choice of shocks...
Add some clevis lift, top plate and you can gain more lift there.
That is the most economical way to lift your KJ.
Using a spacer lift with your factory original coil springs will only give you problems down the road.

Sorry XJs had a UP Country option which gave you an inch or so lift but KJs never did, not even in the beginning. They did sit higher until April 12,2002 when they lowered them about 3/4 of an inch .
Also there are no budget lifts that are good. You want cheap you get cheap as in bad ride sagged suspension etc. If you want a good ride/ good handling on and off road then it will cost you at least 750 on up

Looking at your pic in your profile it looks like you don't have much lift. More importantly though is what tires do you have carrying you through that mud. More times than not it's the tires that aren't up to ***** to get you through the mud. Tom gives you the real facts above. Take it and be happy or resist and be disappointed.

Rocky mountain I have BFG mud terrains it's not the tire. Like I said my dad launched the liberty (head of jeep special operations in Dearborn Michigan) he's no longer with us or I'd have this taken care of by now. he said my kj came stock with a 2 inch. I'm looking for an affordable lift, not a couple affordable pos made in Vietnam coils and spacers, help me out. Looking for price ranges too

And for the record, NO KJ came equipped with a factory lift.

Now it's up to you to decide what you want to do as we have all gone throught this hundreds of times before with other Liberty owners.

They all want the best but want a cheap price,

No disrespect to you or your Father
but one, living in Toledo the last several years ,
two, knowing a lot of the guys who worked at Jeep at the time the KJ started coming off the line,
and three, knowing the FACTS about the Liberty I have to say you are wrong on the 2 inch lift coming from the factory! Never did
End of story.
Now everyone has provided information on the type(s) of lift that are available. I am not sure what you think is affordable but 7-800 is bottom line anything else will get you nothing but headaches and will be cheap crap.
Not sure where the Vietnam coils or spacers come into the conversation but its your choice.

I went wheeling with the Liberty's project manager,who lauched the Liberty line.So what was his name? I do and have his card.


Oh and there was never a Up Country or OE lift for any KJ offered,I know I worked at a dealership when they came out in early '01 and yes I priced one with all the options I wanted and no Up Country or lift in any option.
