This morning a deer committed suicide. Could this have had something to do with my pro-hunting rant yesterday?! #-o
Well my wife was driving to work, it was dark, two lane country road, and she hit the deer while traveling about 53 mph. She's fine... our poor KJ has suffered some damage. I guess the deer ran across the road from the opposite side. On the first photo, the "red 1" shows that the front panel is pushed back. It should line up with the light as seen in the second photo of the opposite side. The "red 2" shows the bumper cover that is toast. The "red 3" shows where the deer also scuffed the bumper (we figure that that is where he lost is load?!).
So I just got back from getting several estimates. The first shop definitely works with soccer moms. Wood floors in the waiting room with a secretary... nice place! The guy (I would say in his early-thirties) looks at it and just says that the bumper cover and light need replacing and painting. He asked me if I wanted for him to order the parts, he estimated about a $1,000. I hadn't really looked at it myself, so I hadn't noticed that the front panel was pushed back. Neither did he! I thought that I should get a second opinion, so I took it to another local shop, "Greg's Body Shop." Greg is an old guy, much like my father-in-law who also owns a shop in Denver. His office is a bit dust and smells like an auto body shop. This guy has been doing auto body for years and seems like a good guy. He right away noticed the extra damage then just the bumper cover and light. So he's the man. He said that he's probably going to paint a lot of the front, excluding the hood so that everything looks like it was never repaired.
Now I just need for my insurance company to fax him permission to order the parts. He's thinking more like $1500. Since this is an "act of God", comprehensive is picking it up, so it will not effect my rates and I have to pay the $500 deductible. It probably won't be until early next week before he has the parts in and time to do it. Then two to three days in the shop.
Too bad that we didn't get the meat!
I'll keep everyone posted...
