Does anyone have any suggestions for treating bottom of the door
rust areas? On the passenger side the inside door bottoms are mostly
clean . On the drivers side i a have a few areas where the pinch seam
is opening up, so there is obviously rust pushing it open. I want
to clean it out and treat it. I wish i still had my sand blaster but
i sold it. I have some ideas but maybe someone who has done
this before has some suggestions.

I have an electric handpiece with grinding wheels ,separating
discs.fine pliers etc. at my disposal for this job. Thanks in advance for
your help!

I used a grinding attachment on a drill to take off flaking pieces and painted it. I didn't do a very clean job since all I really cared about was trying to slow down the rust. Still seems to have traveled its way to the front of the door, unfortunately.

That is the problem living in the rust belt. I was thinking of using a disc
cutting that lip, pull it back, grind, treat the rust then tap it back in place with
a leather hammer. I would like to slow it down as much as possible.

I used to use Naval Jelly then top coat. Worked well for surface rust. I think many like that POR-15.

Ok, reviving an old thread since it applies to my current situation. A couple weeks ago I noticed rust on the bottom of my drivers door. Upon investigation I noticed it was pushing the pinched seams apart on the back side. I'm planning to apply bedliner to the lower halves of all the doors and want to address the rust before doing so. I'd like to keep it looking nice on the outside, so I want to avoid any holes on the panel. I'm thinking I'll start with a wire wheel to see how bad it actually is and then grind as needed to get the metal looking pretty, then spraying on some primer before doing the bedliner. Any problems with my plan? I've done basic bodywork involving the filling of dents, but never really dealt with significant levels of rust. Thanks in advance.

Since my Jeep is black, I just go to town with Rust Reformer. It's supposed to convert the rust, and it;s on the inside of my door, so no one notices it's not glossy like the body.
