I'm feeling a little bit better so I added some more lights!

LEDs are the way forward :)
I plan to add two pods to my lightbar with 3 10w LEDs each. 6000 lumens from only 60watts...
Should probably do all four while I'm at it :icon_twisted:

Yes!
Me as well!
I'm sure the prices will drop in a year or two...
Right now $1500.00+ is a bit too steep for me!

If you have the inclination to make one yourself, there's no reason to spend anywhere near that much. My planned build will cost about a tenth of that and be as bright as a set of HIDs.
Check out Deal Extreme for all the components you need.

I'll post a how-to thread soon when I make mine

I think with also a winch, something more serious & reliable in this department would be very beneficial.

If you build one please make a write-up!
I love the look of LEDs, and not to mention less power needed.

Don't worry, the wiring harnesses will use either all Hella or Bosch relays...
4 30 amp relays.
1 relay per 2 lamps, plus a 20 amp fuse.
16 gauge wire.
I have literally wired 100's of sets of off road/rally car light setups over the last 30
years...
I wish I could find a photo of my green mini's engine compartment.
It uses one 30 amp relay per lamp. The lamps are Bosch 225 (almost 9 inches) with
130 watt bulb.
The head lamps each run a 2 40 amp relay's and 130/100 watt H4's
980 watts total.

Automotive wiring is my main hobby.
No such thing as over kill when it comes to wiring.

I'm going to be getting Hella 4000i's later this year...

Thanks for posting that link!
I will be looking very closely at all the goodies they sell!
Looks like I too will be fabricating my own LED light bar(s)
soon!
That site is gonna keep me awake all night!

Sure thing!
Deal Extreme have a redonculous amount of stuff. free postage too

Just ordered:
10x 10w LED
1x 100W power supply
1x 200w inverter
oh and some optics from a local supplier. I'm considering a mix of beam angles: mostly 12 deg with some 30 deg
Each set of 5 will be mounted on a computer CPU heatsink
Should be good for 10 000 lumens from the two new lights:)

Not the ideal power supply I'd like to use (alternator power through inverter to 220v through transformer to 36v 3A), but getting 36 "clean" volts at a constant current isn't easy. Not unless building a DC-DC Buck/Boost driver is something you consider easy. But this way I do have an inverter which will prob come in handy

Will take a few weeks to get here (SA postage is God awful), so I'll do a write up in a month or so hopefully

WTF! Does it get that dark up there in BC? Nice set-up, nothing like carrying your day light with you.

I haven't read all the replies (I'm too lazy) but if you upgrade the alternator don't you have to program the ECU to let it know it's there? After all the ECU controls the alternator.
