Hi all, I bought a 2002 liberty with 190 km on it, the first thing is that it seems to be using a lotof oil, iit's not smoking or leaking so what do u think might be the problem.
The other thing is that the gears are clunky
When changing but the cluch seems to be OK.
Also I need to change the drivers seat as its very worn will any other jeep seats fit if I can't find one from a liberty.
Last one, I want to fit the overhead computer thingy, I can do the foment but where do Icconnectthe cables thanks
I hope the oil is not finding its way into your water and vice versa!
Seeing as you mention a "clutch" I presume this is a manual Jeep.
Best to change the gearbox oil....do not use anything other than genuine "Mopar Manual Transmission Fluid" even if everyone tells you to use ATF fluid.
You will need about 2.28L of fluid...I think the part number is MS9224.
Then check the level of the clutch fluid in the resevoir....there is no "bleed" nipple on these systems...the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, fluid resevoir and connecting pipe come as a unit pre-filled with fluid. I sucked out as much fluid from the resevoir with a syringe and replaced it with Dot 4 brake Fluid. There is a mark on the side of the resevoir which shows the proper fill level.
Bear in mind that if you ever replace the clutch then the flywheel must not be machined flat by the shop doing the work...the flywheel has a deliberate curve in it to match the curve on the correct clutch disk assembly...some cleaning up of scoring on the flywheel with Emory paper is allowed but no machining at all!
I have seen several posts of owners replacing the seats with leather Liberty seats etc. although I have seen many owners reporting that the older KJs had more comfortable seats than the newer ones!
Do a search here in the KJ "How To" section for "EVIC"...there are several posts there on installing the EVIC or OTIS computer.
