1. Measure between sunvisor holders.

2. Get an aluminum bar, 1/2" wide 1/4" thick, the same length as the measurement in step 1.

3. Bend aluminum bar to fit the contour of the headliner.

4: Remove sunvisor holders and hold them up to the aluminum bar, and mark where the holes should be. Be CAREFUL to mark the right place on the bar wiith the holder opening away from you.

5. Drill holes big enough for the longer screws to pass through. I used 2" screws.

6. Drill holes in the bar to mount the CB plate on. I used small bolts to fasten it to the bar. I also placed a 1/8 " piece of wood between the bar and roof to protect the headliner

7. Install the bar with the CB attached to the sunvisor holders with the longer screws.

8. I ran the power wires down the driver's A post and out the firewall to the battery and ground.

9. I have a magnetic antenna, so I placed it in the middle of the roof, ran the wire in through the flip window, around the drivers side under the headliner to the CB.

Good idea, but....where are your roof lights? Evic/Otis unit? These pics are not of a KJ....

Please explane or this is going...

The headliner material looks like a KJ, so do the sun-visor retainer clips.
Could it be that he removed the interior "dome light" for the mount?
I know with my micro "Sparkomatic" CB I did a mock up mounting in front of the dome lights (No Evic/Otis unit in our KJ fortunately) and would look real clean... I just can't bring myself to popping holes in the headliner for the mounting hardware and to neatly hide the wiring and antenna cable.
But, having just written that an idea popped into my head!
Conceal the wiring and antenna cable under the dome light trim panel.

Yes it is a 2005 KJ.

I didn't remove the dome light. The only thing I removed were the screws holding the sunvisor clips on, and replaced them with longer screws.

I don't know how thhis would work with EVIC/OTIS units.

I tested it off-road yesterday and it held up really well. No shakiing , and very little movement from the CB.

Can we get a picture from the back seat. Looks pretty cool though, might try it.

Here are some more Pics. The first 3 are from backseat, the others are from the the side. I don't know how to get the caption to go with the picture.

The only drawback is that the map lights don't shine down like they did before installation. I am going to put the courtesy lights in that were shown in another post.

I made my mount today

Thanks for the idea, it's an awesome place to mount the CB! I made a mount for my midland 1001z today using a 3/4" wide by 1/8" thick aluminum stock. Going to install my CB and antenna tomorrow.

Again thanks for the Idea

Here are my pics of the Midland 1001z mounted. It's a great location. Does not get in the way of the mirror or sunroof and light functions.
