Deer ran in front of me, hit the brakes as hard as I could, but still hit her. Broke off my right axillary light. What is a good inexpensive replacement that would work with the small gauge wire all ready there? I don't want to re-wire and I'm not looking for KC Day Lighter performance, just similar to what was there.

Doh! Important detail. Yes, it was the stock round light. I assume they came with the Renegade package.

I was just thinking that maybe you could find something that matches out on craigslist or fleabay or something for less than what the dealer would charge you for... unless, of course, you're looking for upgrades.

how's the deer? lol
Glad yer ok.

The deer and the front of my KJ were very lucky. The section of road I was on is the last passing zone until the bottom of the mountain. Usually that section is the Lake Co 500 as everybody tries to be first to the end of the passing lane. It's a steep downhill with three sharp turns and people speed, tailgate, etc. That morning there were no other cars at that moment and I was driving mellow. From the corner of my eye I saw her running out of the meadow on the 2nd sharp curve. If she had been running perpendicular to the highway, I would have been past her and she would have run just behind me. Unfortunately she was running across and down, the same way I was going. Soon as I saw her, I knew we were going to hit. I stood on the brake pedal so hard, the ball of my foot was sore for a couple hours afterward. Not sure how fast I was still going when I hit. The brakes had locked up and I still slid about 20 feet after impact. I heard the thump and saw something fly up and over the Jeep (my light) and then I slid to a sort of sideways stop at the edge of the road. Guess the anti-lock either turns off when the wheel speed gets low or the system couldn't react quickly enough at the low wheel speed. Either way, I left four distinct black skid marks on the highway.
The deer? She jumped over the fence and disappeared down the canyon, never to been seen again.

Should probably upgrade...I mean after all, any light that can't handle a collision with a deer is a weak link just begging to be upgraded. Heck, it's a safety issue. :hmm:
