For years I have been using Mobil 1 and by 3000 miles it was getting quite dirty.
Ya that has to do with city driving with the occasional hwy trip, and possibly the Napa gold filter may not be the best. Mobil 1 here is now $60 a jug.
You guys in the US are so lucky to be able to get good prices on oil at Wall Mart.
These jugs in Canada at Wally world are $50 each plus tax!
A friend brought them up from the US for me with duty & dollar conversion etc $28 each!

From all the reviews I have read, this Penzoil Platinum full synthetic is great oil.
I have enough oil now for a while, and will upgrade to a better filter next change.
Hmm.. should I get a Napa Platinum or Mobil1 or Purolator Filter or?

I plan to go full synthetic on my next oil change (about 1,500 miles from now). Might have to give that a try. :)

Interesting, that oil is made from natural gas. I use nothing but Mobil 1, the high mileage pure synthetic brand, the other flavors of Mobil 1 are from dino oil stock with synthetic additives. The oil turning black is because of the oil, but that can be a good thing. With a healthy clean engine, the black that you see is actually contaminants that better oils are able to keep in suspension. With cheaper oils, that black stuff would turn into sludge build up. Other contributing factors to oil turning black is if the engine had a previous diet of nothing but cheap dino oil, and the better synthetic is now cleaning out the sludged up innards, as it will do. Or, you have a worn engine that has ring blow-by, which puts exhaust gases (carbons) into the oil. This type of worn condition will turn any oil black before it's time.
