Fuel cap

Hi all. So I get a message in the odometer. "Gascap"
Replaced the gas cap, cleared the message, its been fine for two weeks. But now when I get gas, when it clicks off fuel pours out and overflows everywhere for a few seconds. I seem to recall something about this. Anyone know the fix or what the problem is?

I thought I heard that the filler neck was so short that is why they always overflow when topped off. Mine does it almost every time. *****.
