Just acquired a 2002 Liberty Limited with the intention of towing it behind our motor home. This vehicle has the Selec-Trac transfer case (2H, 4H part-time, 4H full-time, N, 4L). My understanding is that it can be flat-towed without any modifications by placing the transfer case in N and the transmission in P. This seems confirmed by the owners manual, which lists the exact sequence for tow preparation.
However, my local independent mechanic is of the opinion that presence of the Select-Trac transfer case, rather than the more common Command-Trac, requires that a fluid pump be used on the transmission when towing the vehicle 4-down.
What do you all think?
