After a long trip to Fort Leonard Wood, MI, then 200+ more miles to my friends parents house in Wappapello, I have an issue now; when I was heading back to PA?

When I got on the highway, after about 9 miles on back roads (dust and dirt); the Jeep started to shudder, and buck pretty bad, and lose power. I thought it was the Transmission. Then the ESP/BAS, SKID, and ABS lights all came on, and it all stopped, driving was fine. That was a relief, at 800 miles from home...

SO, there is the issue. It is NOT like the last time, where it was just a failure, and the lights came on after warm up, no, now it is actually applying the brakes while driving till I turn it off, or it errors out.

SO, when I stop somewhere, start it up, the ESP/BAS, ABS, and SKID lights are on immediately sometimes. When I get up to speed, and they were on, they turn off, then the braking starts all by itself. I shut the ESP off- drives as normal; then, within 5 miles, they all light up again. Pretty strange huh?

Bad sensor somewhere, last time it was a clock spring angle sensor, but was a TOTAL failure... It's only been 6-7months for it to fail again? Who knows, will have the codes checked. I will also clean the rotors and stuff, see what happens. Had more weight on one side of the jeep, maybe there was an issue with that, but, will see tomorrow on my way BACK to work, now that it is empty.

Damn traction control....

I had this problem with the Pontiac Montana the KJ replaced. The wheel sensors kept going out and caused erratic braking and trouble lights. What sucked is you had to replace the entire hub assembly every time they wore out, to the tune of $130 each.

I'm glad i don't have that crap on my 03' KJ... Good luck! I imagine a dealer scan tool could tell you for sure which part is bad this time.

Well, I unpacked the Jeep last night. Rode it 19 miles in to work today, all was FINE. I kind of thought it would be... NO lights, no erratic braking either, stupid thing...

I don't think ESP is the devil, it CAN help offroad in certain conditions, but for the most part I keep mine OFF as I don't like it that much... and if it is icy outside or we have deep snow in the wintertime, I pull the fuse entirely. ABS + Deep Snow = Scary!

Amen Brother...

On the Pontiac Montana we had there was a switch on the dash to disable traction control and ABS, i usually kept it off all winter because it would always seem to do something at the wrong time and scare the hell out of us and nearly cause an accident.

A good driver doesn't need the vehicle telling you how to drive!

IT must have been the weight or something, because it was all fine today.

Also, from fill-up to topping off, (four pulls of the gas trigger)? I got 169 miles at the first 1/4 tank drafting behind a Semi!

I also had a fabric cargo carrier on the roof for the first half tank on the way DOWN? My god, talk about THE WORST gas mileage ever? I packed it up and put it inside man, it was horrible! Going up grades was even worse, never EVER use one of those crapy things!!!

I would LOVE it if the "ESP OFF" button on my WK disabled ABS!!!!

However it disables everything else BUT the ABS! :(

Yeah i thought on the Montana it would only do the traction control, but the first time i turned it off and i tapped the brakes i damn near went into the windshield cause it locked up the brakes. I asked the dealer and they said that the ABS is disabled with that switch turned off as well. Now i didn't believe them at first, but with the difference in braking i'm sure they are right.
