I have a bottle of Valvoline dino gear oil on the shelf...I want to change the diff oil on the KJ, thought that could be used. It's left over from the last change, from 2014 (I change every other year, works out to be 30k miles).

It's been on the shelf in my garage...insulated but not climate controlled. Not a big deal to buy all new but it'd be nice to clear some shelf space.

just 2 years wont make a difference, especially if it hasnt been opened. Iv seen VERY old containers of oil that when i opened had some water sitting in it but that was sitting in the barn for a good 20 years

It's been opened...should've said that. I think I had 2 half bottles left from that job and then combined it into one.

Use the oil, it's fine. Service life is what trashes the oil, not sitting on a shelf....unless it's in an open (to the elements) container.

The oil is just fine, I have used oil that was older than 2 years old and had no problems. The only thing that would decrease the shelf life is if the container was left open with out a cap and crap got into it.

It's left over from t-rex.....just sayin. If it didn't somehow get contaminated it should be good to go. I have a 20 year old (at least) big jug of gear oil I have been using.

Twenty years? How did that happen? Did you get a deal on a 55-gallon drum? :anitoof:

...And you ought to know that you have probably started a "who's got the oldest oil in their garage" contest... :laughing1:
