1. transmission sounds like birds chirping at idle, accelerates well, low pitched rumble when slowing down.


2. one in three times the headlights do not turn off the first time, usually the second time cycling the switch on-off works.

The chirping is likely the one-way clutched alternator sheave, specific to the Diesel engine - a common failure, the isolating damper has deteriorated, allowing the clutch to chirp at low-rpm when Diesel torque-thrust on the crankshaft is very pronounced

Worst-case, if the sound really is from your 545RFE trans, time for an immediate Mr. MoService appointment, before the plastic stator in the torque convertor gives up the ghost and disintegrates

The light switch: have Mr. MoService check that also, may be a delayed-off headlite option trying to enable
