So I screwed up. I have a 2006 V6 that had a disgusting engine bay. I did my best to cover electrical connections, hit it with some degreaser and gently hosed it out. I parked it in the sun for a little while and when I went to turn it on it would crank and crank and crank but wouldn't turn over. Crap.
Hit it with a little starter fluid and it came right on. I ran it for about 15 minutes to make sure it was running fine and to dry it out, took it for a ride around the block and then parked it. I started it up a few more times without issue just to make sure and everything seemed to be working well.
Yesterday I'm taking my kids to school and a 1/4 mile down the road the check engine light comes on along with the ESP/BAS and traction control lights and it dies on me while I'm doing about 35mph. I pull over and try to start it several times unsuccessfully. I leave it for about 10 minutes, try it again and it coughs to life. I start driving it back home but every time I get it to around 2400 rpm it starts sputtering and won't accelerate. I get back to my house and do a little research. The favorites seem to be wheel speed sensor, clockspring, and water around the plugs.
I pull each coil pack and hit the cylinders with compressed air and a shop-vac for good measure. Pull clean and re-gap each plug. At this point I throw my OBD tool (I had just ordered it the day before and the mail came in the middle of this) and get the following code: P0122 Now thinking it's the TPS I pull the TPS and hit everything with compressed air and let them sit in the sun for about 20 minutes. I clear the code and it seems to be running fine, confirmed with a trip around the block. I can get well over 2400 rpm and it drives like it should. When I pull back into the drive I notice it's idling between 350 rpm and 850 rpm. It finally dies and throws P0122 again.
This morning I hit the auto parts store for a new TPS. After installing I went to turn it on and it cranked and cranked and finally turned over after about three tries. I took it around the block and I hit the same sputtering around 2400 RPM. This time it throws the code P0339, Crankshaft Position Sensor. I turn the vehicle off and clear the code just to see what it does. It turns right back on and drives around the block with no problems, again well over 2400 rpm. I pull back into the driveway and it's idling rough again, finally dies on me and throws the code. P0068 MAP/MAF Throttle Position Correlation.
The problem seems to be in the electrical system. I've pulled the wiring harnesses from my PCM and I've blown them out with compressed air and reseated them. I'm at a loss.
