cutting down cv joints

im going to be cutting my cv joints but before i do so i just want to be sure im hitting the nail on the head as i do not have a pile of spares...when taking the 3/8" off of the inner joint from what i gather i just have to remove
the .375" from the face of the bearing cage that the axle shaft comes out of? also do i need to cut down the outter cv joint as well or not?

I have no idea, I am just curious on why you would need to cut the CV joint?

If going to say like JBAs 6 inch lift you have to, anything like most of us run you don't. I've never had an issue where I thought they needed to be done

thought if the hub to fender measurement is at or over 23.75 inches cutting the cv joints is a must? im looking at adding a couple more inches of lift this summer thats why im looking at cutting them, id rather have cut ones and not need them than have stock ones give out unexpectedly and leave me up a certain creek without a paddle as this is my daily driver...i know i probably dont need them but ive already decided on cutting them down...i just want to make sure i do it right...and the more i look into it it looks like i would cut the .375 off of the outer race, (the cup), of the inner joint and leave everything else alone...is this correct?

Unless you go to JBA's lift kit you'll never get over 23.50 anyways with OME springs/ JBA UCAs
They will hit each other at that height or before on some.
I have ran mine at that height but was hitting on every bump
So yes anything over 23.50 actually in most cases
but what you gain in the long run is not that much unless you sink the $$$$ into it

Ok but at full extension of the strut and a hub to fender distance of 23.00 would there be any interference or binding in the cv joint? That is my main concern and id rather do everything right the first time and be done with it so if theres a chance of needing cut cvs i want to have it done.

Well all I can say is I have ran mine at 22.75-23 for 75,000 of the first 100,000 on Lift #1
Lift #2 I have been at 23.25 plus more off and on for over 35,000 and no problems with CVs binding.
There is always a little difference in them so if it makes you sleep better at night I say go for it. All the lifts I do I set them up to be at 22.50-22.75 and no ones had a problem yet with CVs binding

Honestly for the little bit it will cost me to get a set of re-manned cvs from napa and cut them im probably gunna do it for the extra insurance...but ba k to my original question of what to cut? If im correct all that needz to be machined down is the outer race (the cup) on the inner cv joint and turn a groove for the boot and de-bur the cup...is that correct?
