Alright, here's the deal. I have searched and now finally posting. Usually I find what I need by searching, but this time that is not the case.

OK..... So, this morning I head out for a 140 mile trip, get there just fine, cruise works great, no issues to speak of. On the way home is were it goes funky. I'm pulling up a hill and my ****** downshifts and once I get to the top of the hill and start going downhill it doesn't stop. The decel button will not work, and the only way to keep the cruise from going is to rather cancel, break, or turn it off. So I get to a nice flat stretch of road and turn it on and set the cruise at 70 and the thing jumps up to 80 without me setting it there. Once again the decel or accell button has no response, and if I sped up with the pedal at all it would keep going and not stop.

I have shut the Liberty off and it does the same thing. No matter my starting speed when I set the cruise t always goes directly to 80 and will climb until I shut it off.

Where is my starting point? No check engine lights, nothing out of the normal, just all of the sudden my cruise wants me to get speeding tickets.

Same problem! There s nothing to do i guess. But make sure you do not touch the gas pedal or brake. Put your legs under your bottom and you will be fine.Thats what i do :))) Since you will for sure need to use the brakes or sth, do not use the cruise ctrl. It ***** :) It shifts late too, which causes more consumption of gas.

I don't think that is a viable solution seeing as how the cruise will run away on its own and I have no control over it.

I think we just do not know how to operate well :pp: Just like it took me months to figure out how to turn on the fog lights :freak3:

Maybe bad switches? If you are cruising at 60 ad you want cruise control you can either press "set" or "resume/accel" does your resume/accel button work at all? And when decelerating down a hill to keep from having a runaway jeep your jeep will once it gets 5 or so mph over the limit downshift. I live in a hilly area and that's what it does all the time. You could also cancel out od to get the revs up to decelerate, I just went thru the Tennessee mountains and sat back relaxing while everyone was smashing on their brakes. And also, does your cancel button work on the right side?

The cancel button works along with the resume button. I think what is happening is that the vac actuator is faulty and is stuck in one position. This would cause a runaway issue when going downhill and also explain why when set at any speed it will instantly go up to a speed not chosen.

Could be a sensor/wiring issue. Check the condition of the wires going to the speed sensor above your rear differential. If the wires are rubbing through or the sensor is on it's way out, it can create odd symptoms with your cruise, speedometer, and dash lights.

Not saying that's the issue, but worth it to have a look.

Well, I will tell you that it is not the vac actuator. It is going to have to go to the dealer for them to figure it out.
