Was just at the Jeep dealership and the service manager commented that Liberty's are one tough vehicle. He said he services several with 250k to 300k miles with original engines and trans and still going strong. The only weak spot he said is the rear axle if the owner runs them low of oil. He said to keep the oil at the proper level and the rear ends never fail either. So, check your axle oil level! My owners manual says oil level should be 1/2" below the fill plug level. To check mine I made a guage. I took a coat hanger, cut off a 8" length of wire, bent it 90 degrees, and scribed a mark at 1/2" and 1" from the 90 degree bend with a triangular file. Insert the wire in the axle and see the level of oil in your axle. Simple to do but critical per the Jeep dealer.
