Considering a transfer case project?

I was looking for info about the slinger before I tackle my rear output seal, and I ran across this detailed write-up (with great pictures) about breaking down an NV242 transfer case. I don't think it should be taken as gospel, but it provides good general info for the less-mechanically inclined among us, myself included.

The KJ's 242 will be slightly different then the one used in that article and never re-use the seal or slinger

My local dealer has the seal for $38, and the slinger for $6.70. I believe those are pretty close to market prices.
