Intermittently, I will smell an unpleasant burning smell from the heating system. It basically comes and goes. Its not a sweet smell like eth glyc, it almost smells like burning leaves or burning plastic.

No smoke at least none that I have noticed gets blowin into the cabin.

Is it normal for debris from enviroment to be trapped in heater core?

The heater core would never get hot enough to ignite anything. It may be the blower resistor going bad. They glow red hot. Maybe something is on it. Would be easy to check. Just look up the blower resistor on here.

Possibly smell like burning oil? I know a failing seal will do that... I'd have to look up which one for certain.

Agree with PC
Valve cover gasket leaking down onto the cat more than likely
Crawl under and check to see if you can see anything coming down

I think I've got the same thing going on. Got under the hood today and it looks like my pass. side valve cover gasket is seeping a bit. I can see a baked on oil spot on the exhaust manifold.

Fix is gonna have to wait until at least spring break, probably longer:whymewhyme:
