If the brake fluid is old an dirty, it's most likely the issue....:)

Oh yeah, if the brakes are new, that's normal for the brake in period...:)

thanks for all the advice. The brakes were done last year and have about 8,000 miles on them. The brake pedal does feel a bit "spongy". On normal braking there is no odor. It only has the burning smell on hard braking.

My KJ brakes smell sometimes. Specially if I do a lot of city driving. I thought it was normal. Even after my brake change they still smell sometimes. It's not over powering smell thou. You have be standing right over the tire or even have your nose next to the rim in order to smell it.

Not sure of the brake pad brand. I picked them up at PepBoys. They are ceramic pads. It just drives me crazy that the cabin fills with this burning smell when I brake hard and the brake pedal feels very soft.

If you recirulate the smelly air, you will still get the smell...

Fire it up and let it idel without using the brakes and set it to recirculation mode...:)

mine never sees any thing but recirculate
so the only thing smelly is what is in the Jeep already

maybe that is why the inside smells like poo......
