Hi All:
Recently ran into problems with the Jeep Liberty Sport 2002.
The jeep is having a tough time getting from 1st into 2nd. When this happens the RPMS struggle then drop, and the car dies.

Currently in the process of grabbing engine codes -- as the light is on. But, I also noticed something that seemed out of place in the engine bay. Please take a look at the video here:

I will update when the engine codes are retrieved. Trying to not replace the transmission. :freak3:

Cheers

if your video is referring to the pulley starting and stopping that is normal.
that is the AC turning on and off. you either had the AC on, or the controls turned to defrost, which cycles the AC compressor

Alright the codes are in:

P0123 - Throttle / Pedal position sensor A

P0442 -

P0455 -

] Both about evaporative emission system leaks.

You could try to clean the TPS and the IAC they are side by side on driver's side of throttle body. Just spray throttle body cleaner and get into the ports may help. Often replacing a bad TPS by using dealer part is best though.
Evap leaks..442 mine was the gas cap not sealing properly. Click it 4 times tight.
Ended up buying a new dealer locking cap problem solved. However jeep's evap lines can crack and set off the lights. Problem areas are around the PCV valve lines and back around the gas tank lines, coming out of canister etc. Someone with a smoke machine can find them pretty quick if nothing is visible under hood or by tank though.

Its interesting that the carbon build up on these pieces would cause such a huge issue when getting from 1st to 2nd gear. I am going to be trying this out tomorrow, and will update with new information as it emerges.
