any performance gains from an aftermarket exhaust?

Hello

being new to the liberty- i am still in the process of checking everything and getting to know the liberty- and i found that my exhaust system is rotten and rusty-makes sense 4 a 10 year old jeep.

Anyway i can go to a local jeep/chrysler service center and parts store - and get a new stock exhaust system-or i can go nuts and order an aftermarket catback exhaust- which is more expensive cause i live overseas.

I am more than willing to pay for something made by borla or flowmaster- but....do you REALLY get some decent power figures?

I had some performance exhaust systems on some sports cars in the past-(subaru impreza turbo-not sure what you call them in the states) and the performance gain was ok...but that was a modified street racer (it was the 90s and i had no kids, no clue, and too many hours watching the fast and the furious) -and i really needed it cause the engine was modified.

not sure if it will be worth it on a liberty.

what do you think?

Short answer, NO.

It's a Jeep, not a Subaru WRX Sti. The way the engines are designed is for different purposes, and we have no turbocharger.. forced induction vehicles always benefit from improved or upgraded exhaust. Not so with a naturally aspirated v6 in a multi-use, off-road capable 4x4 such as the Jeep Liberty/Cherokee.

Just have a good exhaust shop fab up some pipe and weld it up to replace whatever you have now. New OE exhaust is overkill, and pricey, aftermarket is usually just a Muffler and tailpipes.

Going with more than factory style/design is needless and a waste.

Not the mountains.
All that you need to bother with is a muffler and new piping but don't go any bigger than the factory 2.5" diameter. The muffler is just for your own sound preference.

Muffler is the biggest restriction on the system, take a look at the piping, it it already pretty big, 2.5" I think

If you had a bigger throttle body and a true cold air intake a better exhaust would benefit you, but because you do not I would just stick with what ever sounds good to you.

Not really true, CAI does nothing at all on a KJ except more noise
aftermarket bumper maybe 1/2 to 3/4 more MPG

Plus, if you go with one of the dual exhausts, lIke the one made by borla, you can look up a lot of issues people have had with the side that wasn't originally there..
Buddy of mine welded in a dual borla on his 04, and ended up rubbing the drivers side, and the heat ended up causing some issues with his wiring above the rear axle.

I'd stay stock, especially in diameter.. but you can get some mufflers that will give you the grumble you're looking for. I put on a simple walker sound fx muffler and it gave me all the sound I need from the old girl..
As for a performance enhancement... no change really to be made to enhance our exhaust systems.. needs the precise back pressure that you'll be getting from our OEM exhausts.
You don't HAVE to go mopar, but it's probably not a bad idea. The whole back half of my exhaust is all walker and works just fine. Installations much easier than removal, simply because the muffler and tailpipe come as one unit, but you have to buy them separately if you go an aftermarket route. So separately they're much easier to put in place, wiggling the old one out can get annoying, so I just whipped out the cut off wheel and cut the tailpipe off lol, but, you can take it out as one unit, once you learn how to turn it.. just scrapes up against the gas tank if you dont

Will do nothing without PCM programming and internal engine mods.

I ran the Borla dual exhaust for sometime and never had a issue besides crushing the huge muffler it comes with but that was offroad.

Even took it to MOAB with it a few times and everyone said I would crush the tips but never touched them once and I always took the more extreme lines then the others.

Looks like you got luck not dropping it down onto them lol, but no I was asking if you ran the system on your jeep when it wasnt lifted.
You pull your rear flares of and bedlin where they were? Gotta say that's a first seeing that..judging by the pic though, probably a good thing they were off lol.. and probaby also good that you had the tire pressure lowered..
That before your SFA install I take it?
