I just replaced my water pump because the bearings were failing. So with the belt off, I decided to spin and check all of the other tensioner pulleys and stuff.
Everything spins freely, with no wobble. But I found the alternator pulley kind of stiff, and wouldn't spin so easily. I also noticed some very slight flickering of the interior dome lights, at idle. Does this sound like the alternator bearings are on their way out? I also noticed, that if I put on the rear window defroster or push in the cigarette lighter, the engine seems to run a little rough. Until I turn off the defroster, or the cigarette lighter pops out.
As I understand, the alternator is controlled by the PCM.
But shouldn't the alternator pulley spin rather freely, with the belt off?

Alternators are expensive. But I want to replace it before it seizes up completely, and breaks the belt!

Please give me your opinion on this?
Thanks in advance...

I had the same thing. I got an alternator out of a junkyard with 60k miles for $40. Most reman and non Mopar new ones get bad reviews. I'd go the junk yard route. Got mine from spaulding auto.
