ABS issues? Anyone Else?

My '07 has just under 18,000 miles on it. I've noticed recently (within the past 800 or so miles) that the ABS seems to kick in fairly easily during moderate braking. It seems intermittant, but happening more often. It doesn't happen during easy braking, and I am not talking "jam on the brakes" as moderate. It seems that if I need to do a "slightly-harder-than-normal" stop (definitely not hard enough that ABS would kick in), I feel a little of that quick grind/pulse in the pedal initially. It's brief (maybe 1-1.5 seconds) and then it quits.

The kicker? Yesterday I pulled into a parking spot. All was running fine. Parking spot on a slight incline. I put the vehicle in park, then pulled the parking brake. Suddenly I get a chime and my TCS off, ABS, and ESP something-or-other (upper left on the IC) all light up. I took the parking brake off, same. Shut the KJ off, started it - same. After I did what I needed and got back into the KJ, they were on when I started it. Pulled out, and within about 100'-150' it chimed and they all went off.

Usually the "Christmas Tree" happens when the vehicle is low on power - i.e., weak alternator. Just seems wierd that I've had this ABS thing (I think, I don't think I am imagining it), and then as soon as I stop and pull the parking brake it all lights up. I've driven it about 60-70 miles since then with no lights whatsoever. It has continued to do the ABS feel on occasion.

Anyone else experience this? Please keep the "ABS *****" comments out of the thread. My KJ has ABS, that's the way it is, and I honestly don't care either way.

I'd appreciate it if you'd share then - I just don't need the obligatory "shouldn't have gotten ABS" comments, as I had no choice in a 2007, and like I said, I've owned vehicles with and without and have no preference.

Its probably just a bad wheel sensor. The dealer could probably pull the codes and see why those lights came on.

It's under warranty so just take it in.

I'll have to get it in to the dealer then. It's just a pain to do it - between class and work, lots going on.

Youre telling me. One dealer is 25min away from me but its guaranteed that they will screw it up more or make another problem when fixing the first one. All the other dealers are 2 hours away.

I can walk to a dealer from my house, that's no issue. It's just being without a car and coordinating a pickup/dropoff there that makes it a pain.

Maybe I can set something up at a dealer near work next week. I start at 7am, so drop it off at 7, have a coworker get me, and then I'll pick it up at 3:30 or 4:00 when the coworker drives me home.

I'll have them fix my window issue at the same time (window jams). Hasn't done it since it was cold out though. I'll still complain and have them clean the track

Atrus.......Mine seems ok but what I wanted to tell you was that I had a GMC truck that it seemed that I had to step on the brakes harder to get the ABS to kick in than I do on the KJ. But I've only had the ABS in the KJ kick in a couple of times when I braked harder than normal.

tjkj........some of us got our KJ's with ABS ..... not that we ordered it that way, but we bought it off the lot and that was the way it came, like it or not. So come on, help Atrus out here if you know what is wrong. You are pretty knowlegable and usually willing to help, and we look to you for assistance at times.

I have a question if you don't mind me butting in. My 04 KJ seems to vibrate a tiny bit when I first step on the brake pedal. It usually only does it at lower speeds and when I lightly step on it, like slowing down to pull into a parking spot. It kinda vibrates for a second then stops. What is causing this? I'm not sure if I have ABS or not either. Don't think so.

I know what you mean. I had forgotten how some of the "old-school" type GM vehicles stopped (My old '99 Grand Prix, basically the ones before major redesign). I drove my mom's '99 Tahoe a bit last weekend and forgot how long the brake travel is. The KJ is about 1/3 the amount of the Tahoe!

So, I understand your point - this most definitely is something wrong, and it's definitely something that showed up. The KJ wasn't like this about 1,000 miles ago, it's a new issue.

I think Blake's totally right - wheel speed sensor. Not sure about Chrysler products as I never had one with ABS, but in GM's the sensor is a permanent part of the hub, and you'd have to replace the whole hub (i.e., expensive). I'll get it in sometime in the near future.

That's probably just the brake pads.

Weird. i do know one thing not to do though, dont put pancake syrup on your rotors and then try to stop.
