2005 renegade, all stock - i had the trans flushed and a new filter installed a few months back at 65k on the clock - mechanic said he put 5 qts of ATF +4 in but the stick is still reading low, he told me if it still looks low after driving it add a quart - so, i started to notice after all the heavy weather we have been having in the northeast here and the constant use of the full time 4WD that the hesitation in shifting between 1st and 2nd that the 42RLE's are famous for (although it was news to me) seems to be a bit more obvious, so i added half a quart, now i can feel every shift, not just 1st to 2nd - its not terrible, but i notice it - my question is, does anyone know if this is going to do damage or is there a way to get that "extra" fluid out of the trans without dropping the pan? or is it fine they way it is? - the stick seems to be reading at normal levels now but i would hate to need a new transmission in 6 months because i added a half a quart of fluid - any help would be great

5 qts??? dont' you need at least 8? Can someone clarify what you ACTUALLY need for a filter change in quarts please? Thanks.
ok so:
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Service Fill - 45RFE 4.73L (10.0 pts)
O-haul Fill - 45RFE 13.33L (28.0 pts)
Service Fill - 42RLE 3.8L (8.0 pts)
O-haul Fill - 42RLE 8.3L (17.6 pts)

Service fill = filter change? ...in other words "drop pan and change filter"?
O-haul would be dry fill?

I had to add some ****** fluid after a flush because Chrysler seems to low ball. I also had to add some coolant after a coolant flush since they didn't fill it to cold fill

Last I knew it took two pints(pts)to make a quart.

I ended up putting in 5-1/2 qts after the flush on my 2005 Renegade, even though the book says 4. I have it so that it is exactly on full when it is hot (checked on a level surface).

I did a pan drop and filter change a couple months ago. Took about 6 qts to get it back to the full mark.

im at 6 qts now, stick is reading spot on full after an hour ride on the highway - but definitely aint shifting the same as with 5 qts, the shifts are obvious now, but oddly the rig "coasts" now when i let off the gas, never did that before, always had to keep a little juice going to keep it moving, so that is a good thing i guess - it would be great to get a little fluid out with out having to drop the pan again - i was thinking about using a hose or something - would that even work? anyone ever done that?
