7.3L powerstroke wasn't that bad of an engine. It didnt have the issues like the 6.oh no had. Issues with that engine, aside from injector harness problems, were more related to owners not reading the manual on oil requirements. Mine started without being plugged in during wisconsin winters, as long as I used the recommended 10w30 diesel oil it called for. Too many people ran 10w30 gas engine rated oil, or tried cranking them with 15w40 in the winter, and that caused numerous problems.

Again, there isn't anything magical about the 4.0L in its durability. There are plenty of engines that have earned a reputation, both foriegn and domestic. If you want to talk tough, detroit series 60, oil changed every 60k miles, filters changed every 30k. 800k miles or more you might see a problem. Nope not a fluke, theres half a million of them out there this second doing it.
