The wife's Jeep is at the dealer now getting the recall inspection done. I also had them do a once over since the car has 108,000 miles and figured it was going to need some work. We plan on keeping it for a few more years (house first) and it runs well now. They are going to do the front brakes since I knew that was needed. They also recommended the following which I wanted to make sure was proper. I inherited the car when I met her a few years back so I have been trying to keep up with maintenance (oil, plugs, etc.) from a basic standpoint.

-Transmission Service $215
-4WD System Service $315 or 375 (she was unclear which # she heard)

Do those sound about right? I know the car has the mileage but wanted to be sure it was inline with the "I should get it done, cost sounds right" bucket. Thoughts?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Trans service is always good, just make sure ATF+4 is only used.I'd recommend the dealership for this service as then the correct ATF+4 will be used.

For the 4wd service that should include changing the front and rear diff fluids and changing the t-case fluid.Mid $300's is really not bad of a price for a shop doing those.Of course you can do the diffs and t-case cheaper yourself and is pretty easy. The rear diff is the hardest as you have to pull the cover off, clean the old RTV off and apply new RTV.The front diff and t-case have both drain and fill plugs.

A lot of people would suggest doing the ****** at the dealer. However, a trusted family friend did my transmission fluid/filter, T-Case, front diff, and a bearing all for around $400. So I think you CAN save a lot going somewhere else, however you might want to find somewhere that you have peace of mind.

PS Troy - are you saying I can't take a look inside the differential for water without putting on new RTV??? :( What a pain...

I did the brakes myself last time with my father in-law. It was actually my first brake job but I don't think he did it quite right. I was more of a support role on this and he is an auto body tech, not a mechanic so he has some skills but not necessarily in the service area.

I just may have them do the brakes as well.
